A liberal New York forum audience got a surprise Sunday, when moderator Jeff Greenfield and guest Joe Klein agreed that the only evening news program worth watching was Fox News’ “Special Report.”
Klein, the award-winning weekly political columnist for Time Magazine and a frequent critic of conservative viewpoints, berated CNN at the 92nd Street Y’s Sunday evening cultural gathering, according to The Daily Caller.
“I come home, and I turn on CNN at 6 o’clock at night – because that’s something I kind of do in preparation for the 6:30 network news, to see what Wolf [Blitzer] is really being hyperbolic about – and he’s talking about the plane!” Klein said, calling CNN “an embarrassment to our profession” for going “in the toilet the way it has.” “You know, I miss being able to turn on a straight newscast. And it turns out, the only place you can go to get one at 6 o’clock at night is Fox.”
Greenfield, a political analyst who has worked at ABC, CBS and NBC, agreed, to the audience’s amazement.
“Don’t mumble folks. He’s telling you the truth,” Greenfield said, according to The Caller.
“The other option is to go to MSNBC and see the Rev. Al Sharpton, who I still consider to be a major criminal,” Klein added, to applause. “I mean, the guy can have a job on network TV, on an NBC cable network, and he still hasn’t apologized for Tawana Brawley? Gimme a break.”
Sharpton, who hosts MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” weeknights at 6 p.m., has been a frequent target of ethics investigations. Two decades ago, he avidly supported Brawley when she made fictitious rape accusations, and he has been investigated for failures to pay rent and federal and state income tax.
