Vice President Joe Biden spoke at a memorial service marking the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing Tuesday, making an apparent gaffe that sent Twitter buzzing.
“Let me say to those quote ‘survivors’ [who spoke previously]: My God you have survived, and you have soared,” he said, according to The Wire. “It was worth it, I mean it sincerely, just to hear you speak. You are truly, truly inspiring. I have never heard anything so beautiful.”
The audience applauded, but the “it was worth it” line, drew national attention.
Fox News’ Rick Leventhal was quick to pick up on Biden’s insensitive word choice, tweeting:

Others joined in the ridicule, tweeting:

Maybe the vice president just needs a new speechwriter.
