Following the thrill-seeking path of a 16-year-old and four parachutists, two CNN producers tried to break into the new World Trade Center and failed miserably.

Producers Connor Fieldman Boals and Yon Pomrenze were arrested by police Tuesday afternoon, after numerous attempts to breach security, Reuters reported.

A week ago, a teenager reached the 104th floor of Freedom Tower in the dead of night before he was apprehended by authorities, and on Monday, three men were charged with an illegal parachute jump off the top of One World Trade Center last September.

This rash of publicity prompted CNN to send the two producers out on assignment to check the security situation, but they “were not asked to sneak on to the WTC site,” CNN spokeswoman Barbara Levin said in an email. Apparently their curiosity got the better of them.

The pair first tried to talk their way in, despite carrying camera equipment, then tried unsuccessfully to scale a perimeter fence and push their way through an electronic gate – all in broad daylight. Charges included disorderly conduct, trespassing and obstruction of governmental administration, according to Reuters.

“This is very wasteful of valuable law-enforcement time and energy,” said Port Authority Police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo.

Millions of dollars have been invested in protecting terror target number one since the Twin Towers were destroyed on September 11, 2001.
