Fox News host Bill O’Reilly opened his “Talking Points Memo” Tuesday with two words: “Putin wins.”
“It is now clear that President Obama and the rest of the world will not punish Russia and [its president, Vladimir] Putin, for seizing Crimea,” O’Reilly said. “A few wishy-washy sanctions have been put in place, but nothing substantial.”
But if Putin seizes more territory, the United States will get tough, O’Reilly said before showing a clip of the president’s speech.
Such a “weak response to Putin sends a signal of weakness to the villains of the world,” O’Reilly said, noting that while Obama was downsizing the U.S. military, Putin increased spending on the Russian military by 79 percent.
“Putin became the first the first person in history to take the Crimean peninsula without a shot, without a fatality, without so much as a sprained ankle,” Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer said in response to O’Reilly’s commentary.
