Spaceball Chris Matthews compares CPAC to ‘Star Wars’ bar scene

The Conservative Political Action Conference’s first day proved to be more than MSNBC’s Chris Matthews could handle, prompting him to go off on a spacey rant comparing the gathering to the “Star Wars” cantina.

“Do you remember the bar scene in Star Wars with all those wild-eyed creatures from every part of the solar system?” Matthews asked on Thursday’s “Hardball.” “Well today here in Washington the whole tapestry of weirdness was reenacted at the annual convention of something called CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Committee [sic].”

It seems he was the one who was wild-eyed, since he didn’t even get the name of the event right.

CPAC featured speeches from a host of GOP all-stars, but Matthews said the “crazy car” was full of “the usual suspects,” referring to U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
