Russia Today anchor’s dramatic on-air resignation: ‘I am proud to be an American’

A Russia Today anchor handed in her resignation in a dramatic on-the-air announcement Wednesday, claiming she can no longer be associated with a network that “whitewashes the actions of Putin.”

Liz Wah’s “take this job and shove it” statement came on the heels of an announcement from another Russia Today anchor, Abby Martin. Referring to Russian troop movements in Ukraine, Martin said, “I can’t stress enough how strongly I am against any state intervention in a sovereign nations affairs.”

Wahl noted in her resignation that her grandparents had fled Soviet-occupied Hungary, perhaps adding special impetus to her decision.

“I am very lucky to have grown up here in the United States,” she said. “I am the daughter of a veteran, my partner is a physician at a military base, where he sees everyday the firsthand accounts of the ultimate prices that people pay for this country.”

“That is why personally I cannot be part of a network that is funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin. I am proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth. And that is why after this newscast I am resigning,” she said.
