Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin criticized President Barack Obama’s missteps Monday in dealing with Vladimir Putin, calling the Russian president a product of not just the Soviet Union, but also imperial Russia.
“Anybody who carries the common sense gene knows that Putin doesn’t change his stripes,” Palin told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “He harkens back to the era of the czars and he wants that Russian empire to grow again.”
Palin observed that some differences between the two leaders can be explained by Putin’s understanding of the link between energy and security — something Obama lacks in her opinion.
“People are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil,” she said. “They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates and bloviates. We are not exercising that peace through strength that only can be brought to you courtesy of the red white and blue, that only a strengthened United States military can do.”
