House plans vote to delay Obamacare individual mandate penalty

The U.S. House of Representatives will try to level the Obamacare playing field next week by considering a proposal to eliminate the individual mandate penalty for 2014.

“Given all the problems Americans are facing with the rollout of Obamacare, the House will consider the Simple Fairness Act,” said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., The Hill reported.

Current law requires the IRS to collect $95 fine or 1 percent of taxable income for anyone who fails to purchase health insurance by March 31st. The Simple Fairness Act would waive the penalty for this year, just as the president has already done for noncomplying companies.

“This bill will provide relief and fairness to individuals, just as the administration has done for businesses,” Cantor said, according to The Hill.

Obama has flustered Republicans by bypassing Congress and making repeated changes to the Affordable Care Act by fiat over the past few years.

“It is not fair to give relief to businesses with big checkbooks, yet not help hard working families with relief from these unaffordable mandates,” said U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins, R-Kan. who introduced the Simple Fairness Act on Friday.

Cantor also hopes to modify Obamacare’s definition of a 30-hour work week as full-time employment. To get around the requirement, many businesses have cut employees’ work week to 29 hours, outraging Republicans seeking fairness for the American worker.

It’s time to level the playing field.
