Conservative authorAnn Coulter and Fox host Sean Hannity used Wednesday’s anniversary of the rant that launched the tea party movement to mix it up on Hannity’s program program over the tea party’s future.
As Hannity pressed the case for tea party conservatives tired of what many consider spineless Republican caving in the Capitol, Coulter kept banging on a simple message:
“We need a majority” to defeat Obamacare, she said. “It does not fall on its own … We have to elect Republicans.”
Hannity pointed out that Republicans who are out of favor with true tea party conservatives are perceived as having sold out core conservative beliefs, most recently by acceding to raising the federal debt limit without wringing any concessions from President Obama in return.
“Don’t fight?” Hannity asked. “Throw your hands up?”
“No, but fight to give them a majority,” Coulter shot back. “Then we can repeal Obamacare.”
While she praised the true grass roots tea parties, Coulter offered a pointed endorsement of a column conservative intellectual Thomas Sowell published Wednesday taking Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz to task for what he called “disquieting signs” that Cruz’s tea party leadership isn’t quite what it seems.
Coulter also issued a broadside against what she called the “shysters and con men” who have made a pretty good penny out of an “anti-establishment” movement that’s as real as the Greek columns at President Obama’s nominating convention in Denver 2008.
Control of the Senate in this fall’s elections hangs in the balance, she said.
“If it weren’t for shysters running against ‘establishment Republicans,’ we would have 51 Republican senators right now,” she said. “One big election this year and we would have a veto-proof majority. So, thank you, shysters and con men.”
