Congressional report assigns Benghazi blame to White House

A House subcommittee is placing responsibility for the Benghazi attack on the steps of the White House and the State Department.

“What is absolutely breathtaking is the lack of communication from senior White House officials to those who were on the ground,” Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairwoman Martha Roby, R-Ala., told Fox News host Megyn Kelly on “The Kelly File” Tuesday, shortly after her panel released its report pinning the blame on the Obama administration.

The White House had sent out a press release the day before the attack saying U.S. embassies and consulates were prepared, even though Gen. Carter Ham, then-commander of the military in the region, had never been consulted, Roby said.

The report concluded that the Obama administration exaggerated the security preparedness of U.S. foreign missions — especially those on Northern Africa and the Middle East — prior to the 9/11 anniversary in 2012, according to Military Times.

“We were woefully unprepared militarily when it came to what assets we had that were available once it was clear this was an attack,” Roby said. “The lack of communication from Washington to those on the ground in the weeks and months leading up to the attack is devastating.”
