MSNBC host blasts Sarah Palin for displaying Christmas tree — on Christmas

Since her 2008 nomination as the GOP vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin has been the butt of endless, even invented, jokes from the left. The latest occurred Thursday when MSNBC’s Joy Reid criticized the former Alaska governor for having a Christmas tree — on Christmas.

While substituting for Ed Schultz as host of the “Ed Show,” Reid played a clip of Palin’s appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends.” She then blasted Palin for having the temerity to show family photos from Christmases past before suggesting she was hypocritical for displaying a Christmas tree while professing the holiday’s Christian origins, according to NewsBusters.

Reading from Jeremiah 10:10, Reid said:

For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scare crow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.

Using this Old Testament verse as her starting point, Reid proceeded to blast Palin.

“Now, a Christmas purist wouldn’t want to stray from the Bible on Christmas, would she? Everyone celebrates Christmas in their own special way,” Reid said. “That could mean being tree-side with the family or even profiting off your [cause?] and commercialism. But if Sarah Palin wants us to believe there’s only one true meaning of Christmas, she can keep on pretending.”

Apart from the fact that Reid quoted from a book in the Bible written before Christ’s birth, Jeremiah was clearly speaking of idolatry — I’ve yet to see anyone drop to their knees before a Christmas tree to ask for its divine providence. But that could just be me.
