Krauthammer: Obama snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said that the policies of the Obama administration negated all the gains that coalition forces had made in Iraq. As a result, that country is now in a political shambles and is little more than a terrorist staging area for.

While at The Daily Caller promoting his new book, “Things That Matter: The Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics,” Krauthammer said that the bold action of President George W. Bush against the advice of Congress and the American people by “going with the surge” was the thing that will “most distinguish his presidency.”

As a result, “When George W. Bush left office that war was won,” he said.

“Al-Qaida was not only decimated, it was humiliated,” not only by us, but more importantly by the Sunni Muslims who joined with the coalition forces.

“That war was won!” he repeated. “If we had just negotiated a status of forces agreement … that would have changed the course of the future.”

Instead, President Obama evacuated all forces and created a vacuum which was quickly filled by al-Qaida.
