Dem senator admits: ‘We all knew’ people would lose their insurance

A Democratic U.S. senator admitted that Democrats knew Americans would lose their health insurance plans when Obamacare was implemented, despite President Obama’s promises to the contrary.

ABC’s “This Week” fill-in host, Martha Raddatz, asked U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York Sunday if Democrats were misled by the president when he said people could keep their insurance plans.

“He should have just been more specific, because the point is, if you’re being offered a terrible health care plan, that the minute you get sick, you’re going to have to go into bankruptcy, those plans should never be offered,” Gillibrand said.

Radditz asked again if the senator felt misled.

“No, we all knew,” Gillibrand said. “The whole point of the plan is to cover things people need, like preventive care, birth control, pregnancy. How many women, the minute they get pregnant, might have risked their coverage? How many women paid more because of their gender because they might get pregnant? Those are the reforms that we have to fix.”
