Sebelius says she doesn’t ‘work for’ people who want her to resign

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said she doesn’t work for those who want her to resign.

Rather than accept the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s invitation to testify Thursday on the failings of HealthCare.gov’s rollout, Sebelius chose to tour an Obamacare call center in Phoenix, where she was asked about calls for her resignation, according to Fox News. She offered a strange answer.

“My goal is to actually get the website up and running,” she told the reporters according to the Fox News video clip. “The majority of people calling for me to resign I would say are people who I don’t work for and who do not want this program to work in the first place. I have had frequent conversations with the president and I have committed to him that my role is to get the program up and running and we will do just that.”

No matter what her title, Sebelius is a public servant, which, by definition, means she works for the public — the American people. That means she works for all the American people, not just the ones who want to see her remain.
