Bill Maher implies Obama governs from center out of fear of assassination

During a Friday online-only segment of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said something so stupid that even blather-mouth Chris Matthews was taken aback.

Maher asserted that President Obama is governing as a moderate, and implied he reins in his liberal instincts out of fear of being assassinated, as described by Daily Caller.

“It seems like the people like that, Kennedy, they just seem to always, at the end of the day, either somehow get cut out of the picture — violently, or otherwise,” Maher said. “And maybe that is why Barack Obama is a little more of the centrist than we want him to be.”

The transcript of the conversation that followed:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You think that?

MAHER: Well, I think he knows that if he goes a little too far to the left —

MATTHEWS: Really?

MAHER: Well, yeah.

MATTHEWS: I’m just really curious that you think that.

MAHER: Well, if I were Barack —

MATTHEWS: That’s an extraordinary statement.

Maher, in trying to back away from his comment, would later bemoan that Obama “is a centrist.”

“I think people saw him as what they wanted to see him,” he said. “They saw a liberal, and he was never really that much of a liberal.”

Only in Maher’s far-left world would a man widely seen as the most liberal president in U.S. history be a centrist.

Matthews suggested that Obama “probably gets reports constantly about threats,” saying that “must unnerve him.”

Maher replied that the president probably doesn’t read the reports. “I don’t read my hate mail,” he added.

There aren’t enough hours in the day, Maher.
