MSNBC co-hosts spar when Mika says Ted Cruz doesn’t love country

Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, made it clear she faults Republicans for the government shutdown and looming debt-ceiling arguments, saying U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, doesn’t love his country.

“That shows how much they hate [Obama] and don’t love the country,” Brzezinski said Tuesday. “And that’s what’s scary about this.

But co-host Joe Scarborough wasn’t buying it, asking, “Are you saying they don’t love the country?”

“Are you saying they do?” Brzezinski asked. “Ted Cruz and his group love the country? I think he loves his prospects to develop a database more than he loves the country.”

Scarborough disagreed, siding with the Republicans.

“I have never once suggested that even the craziest left-wing lunatic didn’t love their country,” he said. “I think Ted Cruz believes that Obamacare is dangerous. I think he believes it’s devastating. I think he believes like I believe, that he is willing to take extreme measures to stop it from happening.”

Brzezinski then made a comment that apparently had not been fact-checked.

“You know what?” she said. “Nobody has ever done this before.”

There have been 106 hikes in the debt ceiling since 1940 and, according to NewsBusters, the Congress and the president have fought over it in at least 30 instances.
