4:40pm: Female suspect involved in the shooting outside the US Capitol is dead, Fox News confirmed.

3:43pm: Officer was reportedly not shot, rather injured in a crash related to the car chase. The officer was airlifted to the hospital.

Lockdown at U.S. Capitol lifted following chase, reports of gunfire

— Intelligence source: Police stopped vehicle near White House, then chased it after driver pulled away.

— Chase ended near Capitol Hill; woman driver hit by gunfire, source says

3:13pm: Suspect is reportedly a woman with a child in the car. She tried to ram through the WH gates, The injured officer was airlifted to the hospital. Reports say child is ok. Woman tried to ram gates of WH, and then a high speed chase ensued.  She then jumped out of the car and may have began shooting at bystanders near the Capitol.

Armed gunman did try to ram the WH gates.

3:02pm: Uniformed Secret Service agents on way to the White House.

3:01pm: Fox News: After police were able to stop the vehicle in the car chase, the driver got out and began shooting. Witnesses report as many as 12 shots may have been fired.

3:00pm: Several shots fired, people wounded, including a Capitol police officer. Lockdown has been lifted.

2:54pm: FBI is on way to the Capitol.

2:52pm: Multiple sources reporting the shooting may be the result of a car chase that ended at or near the Capitol building.

2:50pm: According to DC Fire Rescue, the baby is not injured.  A baby is reportedly in the clinic Hart Office Building.

2:50pm: Senate and House staff told to lock themselves in offices, shelter in place.

2:45pm:  Shooter is reportedly in custody
