Obama snubbed by Iranian president at UN

The chickens of President Barack Obama’s disastrous Middle East policy of capitulation and “leading from behind” once again came home to roost Tuesday, when he repeatedly sent feelers to Iran’s new President Hasan Rouhani about his willingness to talk — mano a mano — while both men were at the United Nations.

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller tweeted what came of the suggestion:

Request denied. Not surprisingly, Knoller got some astute replies, including:

The Associated Press reported the snub as follows:

Senior U.S. officials say President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hasan Rouhani will not meet while both leaders are at the United Nations.

The officials say a meeting proved to be too complicated for the Iranians. But they say work is under way at the staff level to resolve an impasse over Iran’s nuclear program.

Although the rudiments of chess were invented in India, the game was apparently perfected in ancient Persia — the forerunner to Iran. While Iran knows the game well, Obama is still working out the rules for checkers.

George W. Bush was often criticized for awkwardness or occasionally stumbling over his words, but his words at least meant something. He knew how to play chess.
