Tuesday 2:04pm:  Alexis entered Building 197 with a shotgun.  “The FBI has no information” at this time that he had an AR 15 in his posesssion. The FBI believes Alexis may have accessed a handgun once inside the building.

Alexis “utilized a valid pass” to get inside the building where he worked as a contractor.

Alexis arrived in DC “on or about Aug 25” and stayed in several area-hotels.  Last known hotel was a “Residence Inn” in DC on Sept 7. Anyone with contact with him call the FBI with that information.  1-800-CALL FBI

Hundreds of tips have been called in by American public. Assistant Director in Charge of Washington Field Office thanked public for all their help.

Also, Washington D.C. Metro Police Department advises family members of Washington Navy Yard employees attempting to meet their loved ones do so at Nationals Stadium, Parking Lot B, South Capitol & N St SE.

D.C. Metro Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirmed there were 12 fatalities in a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard Sept. 16.

An active shooter was reported inside the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building (Bldg. 197) on the Washington Navy Yard at 8:20 a.m. (Eastern Time).

Emergency personnel remain on scene and a “shelter in place” order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel.

In a press conference at MedStar Washington Hospital Center Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced he had conferred SECNAV Designee status on injured personnel. The Secretary of the Navy Designee Program provides special eligibility for medical and dental care from naval medical facilities for patients affected by the shooting.

A number of agencies are investigating the incident including the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, D.C. Metro Police, and the FBI which has lead.

As a result of the incident, the Navy has issued an “Order to Account” for all Navy uniformed personnel, both active duty and selected Reserve, assigned to commands in the D.C. metro area. The order also applies to family members, Navy civilian employees, as well as, NAF and NEX personnel. Personnel muster through the Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System (NFAAS). “I’m deeply shocked and saddened by the shooting this morning at the Navy Yard,” said Mabus. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. I have complete confidence in our first responders, and I continue to be completely focused on this very difficult situation.”

Jonathan Greenert. “Our team of Sailors and Navy Civilians at the Navy Yard deserve our care and concern at this time. I applaud the efforts of all who immediately responded to this course of events in order to care for the injured victims and ensure the safety of our personnel.”

“The commander of the Military District of Washington is determining the operational and security status of military installations in the National Capital Region. Individual installation commanders have the authority to change their operating status at their discretion. While the Pentagon remains open, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency increased its security posture, not out of a specific threat, but as a proactive, precautionary measure,” Little continued.

“This is a fluid situation. One of those officials says Alexis was a 34-year-old from Texas. He is believed to have a criminal record there and to be a holder of a concealed carry weapon permit.

Update: US Navy reported 3 shots fired at Navy Yard building at 8:20 am Monday morning.  One DC Metro officer was shot twice in the leg/s, transported via ambulance to hospital.  DC Fire Rescue has classified this as a “Mass Casualty Incident.” 

US Navy confirmed fatalities and many injuries. Shooter is reported to have an AR 15 (Fox 5 DC), possibly another rifle or shotgun, possibly also a pistol taken off one of the guards.

US Navy has only confirmed ONE shooter at this time. DC Police described possible suspect as “Adult black male, bald, 6 feet tall, medium complexion, black pants, dark shirt…(wearing camo-type clothing).”

9:54 am: Update: US Navy reported 3 shots fired at Navy Yard building at 8:20 am Monday morning.  One DC Metro officer was shot twice in the leg/s, transported via ambulance to hospital.  DC Fire Rescue has classified this as a “Mass Casualty Incident” with at least five victims. Shooter is reported to have an AR 15 (Fox 5 DC). DC Fire Chief is on the scene and has assumed command of Fire Rescue duties.

The U.S. Navy is reporting an “active shooter” in the headquarters building at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC.

“Three shots were fired at 8:20am,” the Navy tweeted.

The Navy Yard is located at M Street, SE.

DC Fire Rescue is staging down the street at New Jersey and M Street.

DC Fire Rescue is en route to a hospital with at least one victim, according to 5-0 Radio scanner.
