In a recent speech at Georgetown University, U2 frontman Bono surprised a lot of people, including himself when he said, “Aid is just a stop-gap. Commerce [and] entrepreneurial capitalism takes more people out of poverty than aid.”
He would also add: “In dealing with poverty here and around the world, welfare and foreign aid are a Band-Aid. Free enterprise is a cure.”
As chronicled by Twitchy, the conservative movement was quick to reverberate Bono’s wisdom that only capitalism can end poverty, including U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio:
