Found: Politician with more gaffes than Biden, Pelosi combined!

banisterThe political buzz around Queensland, Australia these days is centered on a young parliamentary candidate who has managed to make more gaffes than Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi combined — and do it all within a single interview.

Things started off badly for Stephanie Banister, a 27-year-old welder running for a seat in Rankin, Queensland, when she described Islam as being a country during her interview with CNN affiliate 7 News. Instead of correcting the blunder, she piled one on top of another, according to CNN.

“I don’t oppose Islam as a country,” Banister began, “but I do feel that their laws should not be welcome here in Australia.”

Then she added, “Less than 2% of Australians follow haram.” Did she mean the Quran, or the Muslim dietary laws? She wasn’t at all clear, but nonetheless plowed ahead to offer her ignorance of other religions.

“Jews aren’t under haram, they have their own religion which follows Jesus Christ,” she asserted.

After muffing up the world’s religions, she decided to tackle Australian national issues, noting its disability insurance program was “working at the moment.” It is not set to begin until 2016, according to Australian 7 News.

Almost immediately after it aired, the interview went viral — worldwide — an inauspicious beginning for a young pol. Shortly afterwards, she withdrew her candidacy, claiming to be the victim of malicious editing.

“With the way Channel Seven edited my interview, I was left quite the fool,” Banister said.

Banister is now being referred to in Queensland as the former candidate for Parliament, her campaign having lasted a total of 48 hours. May I suggest she consider moving to the United States? The Democratic Party would welcome her with open arms as one of its own.
