An outspoken Republican Texas congressman said Monday that the closing of 22 of our embassies on Sunday, and the continued closing of 19 of them made the United States look “like a bunch of cowards.”
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, played pinch hitter for Sean Hannity on his radio program when a caller brought up the embassy and consulate closures in the Middle East and North Africa.
“I don’t want no one to get hurt, and I don’t want no one to die,” the caller said. “But I don’t think we’re going to get anywhere with these extremists by trying to be, you know, appeasers.”
“We don’t want any more people to die,” Gohmert agreed. “But it brings us back to the question that [then-Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton asked, what difference does it make at this point?
“The difference it makes is, that if you will bother to find out exactly what went wrong, why you didn’t have security where you needed it, where you need security to shore up, what you can do to make sure that doesn’t happen again, you don’t have to close your embassies like a bunch of cowards that go running away,” he observed.
