Islamist jihadist creates panic in Colorado churches

No doubt in celebration of Ramadan, which runs from July 8 to Aug. 9, a man describing himself as an “Islamist jihadist” has promised that Mormons and Catholics “would be destroyed” in the next two weeks, prompting police in the Fort Collins area of Colorado to tell churches to be extra careful.

A memo was sent out to local churches by the Fort Collins Police Services Friday to be on the lookout for suspicious behavior, and as of Sunday the man hadn’t yet been spotted police Sgt. Mike West told the Coloradoan.

Rev. Steven Voss of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church told the Coloradoan that as he read the memo’s warning, his “blood run cold.”

The Coloradoan reported:

When he read the police bulletin during Mass Saturday, an “audible gasp” escaped those seated in the pews. A day later, “after the initial, kind of having your breath taken away moment,” there was a greater sense of calm, he believes was due in part to police presence.

The man is described as a “white man in his 30s,” possibly driving a “white Honda coupe on which someone spray-painted “F*** DHS” (Department of Homeland Security) on the trunk, “Rev 14-7” on its side and “YHVH” (Hebrew for god or deity) on the back bumper and hood.”

I can only assume that Mr. “Islamist jihadist” wasn’t who President Obama had in mind when, hosting a Ramadan dinner at the White House Thursday night remarked, “Muslim-Americans and their good works have helped to build our nation.

Then again, I doubt that he was thinking of Maj. Nidal Hasan, Anwar al-Awlaki, and Dzhokhar and Tamerhan Tsarnerlan, or for that matter, the underwear bomber, Times Square bomber or the shoe bomber.

Clearly, the “Islamist jihadist” also has a little work left to do on that “spirit of interfaith cooperation” concept.
