Cornel West calls US the ‘George Zimmerman of the World’

Out of the mouths of knaves.

Of all the braying, insulting and intellectually fallow tripe that has spewed from libs over the 10 days since that Seminole County jury acquitted George Zimmerman of the murder of teenager Trayvon Martin, Union Theological philosophy professor Cornel West might have taken the prize with his weekend comparison of a Sanford, Fla., neighborhood watch volunteer with the foreign policy of the world’s sole remaining superpower.

cornelwest“Our drone policy makes us the George Zimmerman of the world in terms of killing innocent folks in the name of self-defense,” West said during a CNN interview where he faulted, once again, the entire social system of a country that’s provided him with a pretty good living in return for doing little more than hate it for the past 40 years.

It’s the kind of line that probably gets rave reviews in the faculty lounge of Union Theological Seminary – celebrated far and wide as the birthplace of the  Black Liberation Theology espoused by former presidential pastor Jeremiah Wright. But like most nonsense hurled as an insult, it does have  a kernel of truth to it.

Without romanticizing either Zimmerman or the United States, there are some basic similarities: good intentions (protect the neighborhood/make the world a safer place), occasional bouts of heroism (rescue a family trapped in an overturned SUV/save the world from mass-murdering collectivism– twice), and regrettable mistakes (Trayvon Martin/the Democratic Party).

In short there are worse people for a country to be compared to, and worse countries to aspire to.

On the other hand, if you’re an invective-spewing, empty-headed pseudo-intellectual who only gets attention for hate-filled speeches – not to mention really, really bad haircuts — there’s only one country left you can legitimately call a soul mate:

Dr. West, did anyone ever tell you you remind them of North Korea?
