Ted Nugent for president . . . why not?

ted-nugent-for-presidentIndustrial strength rocker Ted Nugent, the Motor City Madman, is actually thinking of a presidential run. On the surface this may sound crazy, but let’s face it, he can’t do any worse than … well, you know who I mean.

The musician-activist indicated in a July 2 Washington Post Magazine article that he was indeed sending out some trial balloons, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee latched onto one of them and promised to lend his support, according to USA Today.

Huckabee unsuccessfully sought the 2008 GOP presidential nomination and now hosts a show on the Fox News Channel that airs Saturday and Sunday nights.

Nugent considered a political run before — as Michigan’s governor in 2006 and 2010 — but this is the first time he’s toyed with a presidential bid.

He came up with a campaign slogan, which he related to the Post’s Steve Hendrix: “Hi, I’m Ted Nugent, I have nine children from seven women, and I’m running for president.” Okay, it may not be “Ask not what your country can do for you,” but it may have promise. We can call it a work in progress.

USA Today’s Catalina Camia noted:

A presidential campaign may sound far-fetched, but there are people out there who would eat it up. Nugent for President memorabilia was all the rage at the recent National Rifle Association conference in Houston.

Pro-Second Amendment and anti-political correctness, that’s “Uncle Ted.” Sign me up.

In the following clip, NBC’s Luke Russert get’s Nugent’s reaction to President Obama’s State of the Union Address, which he attended as a guest of Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Tex.
