Drama follows claims of John Kerry yachting during Egypt’s coup

Just where in the world was Secretary of State John Kerry as Egypt lurched into chaos?

That’s the question asked by Twitchy, which notes “there is plenty of conflicting, head-scratching information regarding [Kerry’s] whereabouts on Wednesday as Egypt descended into chaos.”

The drama began when CBS This Morning senior producer Mosheh Oinounou tweeted a photo of the “Isabel” and reported that a producer had spotted Kerry on board Wednesday, according to the local CBS affiliate in Boston.

And Oinounou was not the only one who reported as much.

Interestingly, the National Security Council “tweeted” a photo Wednesday of President Obama meeting with members of his national security team to discuss the situation in Egypt and Kerry is not seen.

The CBS affiliate in Boston reported that a State Department spokesperson said earlier in the day she could not comment on Kerry’s whereabouts on Wednesday, but said Kerry is kept in the loop on all the latest developments.

Later, a statement was issued by Kerry spokesperson Jen Psaki.

“Since his plane touched down in Washington at 4 am, Secretary Kerry was working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt,” Psaki said.

“He participated in the White House meeting with the President by secure phone and was and is in non-stop contact with foreign leaders, and his senior team in Washington and Cairo,” she continued.

Nantucket reporter Jason Graziadei said Kerry was “definitely” on Nantucket, tweeting that Kerry’s motorcade was spotted about a mile away from the marina and even got it on video.

All of which leaves us to wonder if this is yet another embarrassing moment for the Obama administration that’s being covered up? I guess it depends on your definition of “all day.”
