Tenn. taxpayers support dad’s 22 kids from 14 moms

Orlando Shaw is a happy-go-lucky deadbeat dad, but who wouldn’t be if the state was paying for your 22 kids?

Ladies man Shaw, 33, is the proud father of 22 children from 14 mothers, and surprise, surprise, he’s behind “tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid child support,” News Channel 5 in Nashville reported.

Shaw’s child support case is one of the state’s most expensive. Incredibly, Tennessee taxpayers contribute over $90,000 a year to take care of Shaw’s kids. The news station broke down what the state pays to support each child: $142 in “temporary assistance” and $200 in “food stamps” per month, per child. That’s $342 times 22 children, so the state pays $7,524.00 a month.

The mothers took Shaw to court, but consider the options facing a magistrate. If you send Shaw back to jail, he definitely can’t earn an income. However, Shaw has a criminal record, so he has a hard time even finding work, according to the Channel 5 interview.

According to the news article:

“I love my kids and I can care less about what anyone thinks about it,” said Shaw. He said by having all these children it helps his Shaw family legacy live on. “I’ll be sure we’ll be here for years and years to come.”

Yes, Mr. Shaw, but the taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund your legacy.
