As more information comes to light, the IRS scandal takes on a more ominous tone. It is now being reported that, in addition to former IRS chief Douglas Shulman’s 157 visits to the White House, IRS official Sarah Hall Ingram visited another 165 times.
There has been little scrutiny of this revelation that was part of a report published Wednesday by the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, a nonprofit, online news organization that has a free market and limited government perspective on state and local government and politics.
Astonishingly, as the report states, the two officials never overlapped in a single meeting.
Just in case you’re “not good with math,” as senior IRS official Lois Lerner confessed recently, that’s 322 separate visits to the White House by top IRS officials during much of the time conservative groups were being targeted for extra scrutiny.
As reported yesterday by The Daily Caller, Ingram headed the IRS’ tax-exempt division in 2010 when the “scandal-ridden agency” began improperly targeting the tax-exempt nonprofit status of conservative groups.
Ingram is now the director of the IRS’ Affordable Care Act office, tasked with overseeing the implementation of Obamacare.
As Franklin Center notes, all of Ingram’s165 meetings were with White House staff, while only 151 of Shulman’s visits were with staff. Shulman attended six meetings with President Barack Obama.
