It is with great dismay that we learn Vice President Joe Biden will not be throwing his annual beach party for journalists this summer.
For the past three years, Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have welcomed select members of the media to their home at the Naval Observatory for a beach bash, but, alas, not this year. The vice president’s office declined to comment on the record regarding the decision to forgo a party this summer, Politico reports.
Past guests, according to Politico, have included CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and Candy Crowley, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow, CBS’s Bob Schieffer, ABC’s Ann Compton and New York Times reporter David Sanger.
Reporter Dylan Byers reminds us the White House announced it temporarily suspended White House tours because of staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, then states that it’s “unclear if the Vice President’s party was cancelled for similar reasons.”
Oh, really?
It’s unclear why this year’s beach bash was cancelled?
Do you think it may have something to do with the swirling scandal involving the Department of Justice targeting journalists?
Apparently, for some, it’s a buzz kill to learn that their e-mails and phone records could be seized by this administration and that they may even be labeled “co-conspirators.”
Or, as PJ Media’s Bryan Preston offers, “has the White House muzzled Gaffetastic Joe as it finds itself on defense in a three-front war?”
The three fronts being Benghazi, the IRS scandal and the actions of the DOJ. Nonetheless, it seems they’re taking all the fun out of being vice president for Biden, who looks forward all year to the Super Soaker squirt gun fights.
