Officials believe bomber suspect’s wife radicalized, involved every step of the way

In an interview Friday with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, says he believes Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s wife was also radicalized.

JAKE TAPPER: Do you still have questions about Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s family and what they knew, especially the wife?

REP. MICHAEL MCCAUL: Especially the wife. I mean, they’re living in a small apartment. The pressure cookers are inside the apartment. We know they had at the time executed the search warrant up to ten explosive devices. The idea she knew nothing about that is very difficult for me to believe. She’s radicalizing along with him.

McCaul would add that he thinks the wife, Katherine, was involved “every step of the way,” and that “she does have information.”

Even more disturbing are McCaul’s comments about the Boston police not being aware of all the red flags on Tsarnaev and the lack of communication between various law enforcement agencies. Which sounds eerily familiar to what we heard after the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2000.

Is this not part of the reason the Dept. of Homeland Security was formed, to improve the sharing of terrorism-related information across the intelligence community?

According to the DHS web site, it’s touted as an accomplishment:

“Moreover, we have strengthened the ability to convey intelligence on threats to the homeland in a context that is useful and relevant to law enforcement and homeland security officials at the state and local level.”

All of which prompts a fair question, is the Boston Marathon terrorist attack yet another major failing of the Obama administration that’s being swept under the rug by an adoring national media?
