Why wait for the weekend – Obama hits the links Monday

Congratulations are in order for Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., who hit a hole-in-one while golfing Monday with President Obama at the Joint Base Andrews course in Maryland. Yes, Monday.

The president was said to be looking for support on the upcoming immigration reform vote, as well as a compromise budget deal as part of his “charm offensive,” according to the Hill. Meanwhile the crisis in Syria continues to escalate and facts are beginning to come out about the attacks on the consulate in Benghazi.

Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Mark Udall, D-Colo., rounded out the foursome. The three senators serve either on the Senate Foreign Relations or Intelligence Committees.

“We had a delightful day of golf with folks who enjoy playing the game,” Chambliss said in a statement to the Hill. “We talked some business, but it was mainly a day for everyone to get away from the office for a little while.”

“He’s willing to try anything,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said. “And whether it’s a conversation on the phone or a meeting in the Oval Office or dinner at a hotel or dinner at the residence, he’s going to have the same kind of conversations.”

An afternoon vote on Capitol Hill forced the game to be cut short at 15 holes, and according to CNN, Chambliss was unable to buy the traditional round of drinks after his hole-in-one.

Glad to see they have their priorities in order.
