New details from Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s confession to authorities told of the brothers’ original plan to engage in suicide attacks in Boston on the Fourth of July.
However, the bomb making activities conducted in Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s home went faster than expected, so the terrorists moved their timeline up to attack the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, which was also Patriots Day in Massachusetts, the New York Times reported.
The Tsarnaev brothers drove around the Boston area looking for an alternative site, which is how they chose to attack the finish line, the Times said.
On Friday, Fox News reported more interesting information about the bombs that were built in the home of Tamerlan and wife, Katherine Russell:
The older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev allegedly assembled at least four types of improvised explosive devices in the home Tamerlan shared with wife Katherine Russell, sources tell Fox News. Typically, in cases of homegrown terror, only one type of explosive is constructed.
Authorities also believe the terrorists may have been headed to New York City with the remaining pressure cooker and pipe bombs they had in their possession after the Boston bombing.
Though law enforcement continues to investigate Russell for any role she may have had in the planning of the attack or helping to aide and abet her husband and brother-in-law after the bombing, two sources told the Times it was not her DNA nor fingerprints found on the bomb fragments reported about earlier in the week.
