House Dems resolve climate change could lead to prostitution

A dozen House Democrats have submitted a resolution asking Congress to recognize that climate change will lead to all manner horribles affecting women the greatest, and may even force them to resort to “transactional sex” — prostitution.

House Concurrent Resolution 36 was presented by Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif. (where else), “recognizes “the disparate impact of climate change on women and the efforts of women globally to address climate change,” according to The Hill.

The resolution predicts in part:

“Food insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health.”

When asked for comment, Rep. Lee sent the following statement to The Hill:

“My resolution will affirm the commitment to include and empower women in economic development planning and international climate change policies and practices,” she said. “This will help communities adapt to climate impacts, and embark on a path towards clean and sustainable development.”

The resolution comes at a time when climatologists are beginning to come to grips with the fact that the planet is not warming — global temperatures have remained essentially steady for well over a decade.

“While some climate scientists continue to resist the obvious that the climate system is more complex than they assumed, others are starting to accept that the multi-decadal climate projections provide very incomplete simulations as to how the real climate system works,” Roger Pielke, Jr., environmental studies professor at the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research at the University of Colorado in Boulder, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

In short, the earth’s climate is much more complex than originally thought, and while the professionals are now realizing this fact, the non-professionals — “green” politicians and environmentalists — continue to stubbornly cling to their long-held beliefs.

Both the environment and society are complex systems. Just as climate scientists have shown themselves incapable of demonstrating a link between human activities and global warming, so too Rep. Lee is unable to prove that global warming — should it ever come to pass — will inexorably lead to prostitution.
