Chris Matthews calls Sen. Mitch McConnell an ‘SOB’

Is it proper for a member of the media to call the Senate Minority Leader an “SOB”? Chris Matthews did just that on MSNBC’s Hardball Wednesday night.

Imagine the wrath that would follow if the name calling were done by a Republican.

From the news guy who said it was his job to help make the Obama presidency a success, and also that he “gets a thrill up his leg every time he hears Obama speak”, he now says, “I’m not always partisan.”

I’m not sure the audience will buy that line, but they’ll probably believe the next one.

“I really do have a problem with Mitch McConnell. I would like to see him get stung hard on this one. So, why do I think like that?” Matthews asks rhetorically. “Because he tends to be an SOB generally? Does anybody like that guy?”

Noel Sheppard of NewsBusters asks, “Doesn’t this cross some journalistic line, or does that just clearly not exist anymore?”
