Koch brothers explore takeover of liberal newspapers in key regions

All is fair in love and war, the old saying goes, and what a major turn of events it would be if reports prove to be true that Charles and David Koch are looking at buying the Tribune Co.’s eight regional newspapers.

Koch Industries, The New York Times reported on Saturday, is exploring a bid to buy the newspapers owned by Tribune, which include the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Baltimore Sun, the Orlando Sentinel and the Sun Sentinel.

Be still my beating heart!

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall when Orlando Sentinel gossip columnist Scott Maxwell and his cohorts first heard the news.

Not too worry, though, Mr. Maxwell. While the tea party in Orlando struggles for a pulse these days, I think we can still have room for a few hardy souls to help carry the boxes to the parking lot.

The “Koch brothers,” and by extension, Koch Industries, quickly became the far-left’s favorite bogeyman in the desperate attempt to minimize the tea party as “manufactured outrage.”

Koch Industries helps finance groups like the Cato Institute and formed President Obama’s nemesis, Americans for Prosperity, the political action group that helped galvanize tea party organizations, according to The Times.

The company has said it has no direct link to the tea party.

In truth, the stranglehold the progressive left has on the media, and pop culture in general, is a huge advantage at the ballot box for the Democratic Party and its progressive, big-government policies.

If Koch Industries follows through here, it will help level an otherwise tilted playing field. As noted by The Times:

“The Los Angeles Times is the fourth-largest paper in the country, and The Tribune is No. 9, and others are in several battleground states, including two of the largest newspapers in Florida, The Orlando Sentinel and The Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale.”

While the sky has remained dark and foreboding for some time, a sudden ray of sunshine breaks through. Rejoice!
