Amb. Bolton: Did Dzhokhar Tsarnaev come to US already a child soldier of terrorism?

Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton discussed the increasing Islamic radicalization of Chechens with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Friday evening.

Bolton said it is possible that the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, who are reported to be Chechen, may have ties to Islamic extremists in Chechnya who sympathize with al-Qaida and the Taliban.

He believes that the Tsarnaev brothers’ shoot-out with police suggests they had “training beyond simple bomb making.”

Bolton also expressed concern that if Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is ultimately charged in criminal court instead of held as an enemy combatant, he will get a lawyer who will advise him to “clam up,” and we won’t learn if Dzhokhar Tsarnaev became radicalized in the U.S. or if he came here already a member of the Chechen terrorist network.

“There have been child soldiers throughout history,” Bolton said. “I mean, anybody who’s willing to plant a bomb that would kill an 8-year old little boy is perfectly prepared to have their own little boys carry the bombings out.”
