London on edge as security prepares for weekend marathon

As officials are still combing through rubble of the bombing in Boston, authorities in London are scrambling to prepare for their own marathon scheduled for Sunday. In addition, former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s funeral is expected to draw large crowds on Wednesday, according to Fox News.

London’s marathon organizers are planning a tribute to the runners and victims of the Boston bombings. A 32-second moment of silence will precede the beginning of each leg of the race, and runners will be given black armbands at check-in to wear along the route.

While security will be beefed up, officials had plenty of preparation in hosting last summer’s Olympic games. Christine Jones, Metropolitan Police Commander, says there has been no change to the threat level to terrorism for the U.K. at this time.
