A website that originated in Russia posted Monday what it claims to be Social Security numbers, credit reports and personal banking information of a number of celebrities and political heavyweights, to include first lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Or is it all part of an elaborate hoax?
ABC News consultant and former FBI agent Brad Garrett said the entire site could be a fraud designed to embarrass those in the public eye.
Attempts by ABC News to verify some of the information listed on the web site — Exposed.su — was unsuccessful, which included calling a number listed for Biden that turned out to be a local business in Delaware.
“The Department is aware of the report and the FBI is investigating the matter,” a Department of Justice spokesperson told ABC News.
Information was posted on other notables include U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Director Robert Mueller, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin
Information posted on entertainers include Kim Kardashian, Mel Gibson, Ashton Kutcher, Jay Z, Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Hulk Hogan, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
