As of Friday, White House tours were closed — unless, of course, you’re one of those celebs known by one name. You know who I mean. People like Cher or Toure’ — or in this case Adele or Beyonce.

The “history” tab of the Whiter House website begins with these words by the first lady:

“This is really what the White House is all about. It’s the “People’s House.” It’s a place that is steeped in history, but it’s also a place where everyone should feel welcome. And that’s why my husband and I have made it our mission to open up the house to as many people as we can.” – Michelle Obama

Yet in an effort to make the “pain” of sequester cuts as public as possible, the Obama administration showed us just how petty it could be by taking the extraordinary step of closing the White House to the public — well, not all the public.

In the same week the Obama administration nixed public tours, White House sources confirmed that megastars Adele and Beyonce will help first lady Michelle Obama celebrate her 50th birthday next year, according to Breitbart News.

Breitbart.com’s Ben Shapiro notes:

But will they pay all the expenses of the party? Security arrangements? Food? Cleanup? White House parties are expensive affairs.

It’s obvious that the White House’s priorities don’t lie with the people. They lie with the personal party predilections of the Obamas.

The White House’s decision to close public tours has created a nationwide furor. Fox News personalities Eric Bolling and Sean Hannity said they would each contribute enough to keep the tours running for one week, at a cost estimated between $50,000 and $75,000 per week. Others have said they’d contribute smaller sums to add to the pot and keep the tours running.

Shortly after the announcement, a group of Iowa sixth graders who’d made plans to make the tour but are now being shut out, proclaimed in a video, “The White House is our house, please let us visit!”
