You may have heard the Obama administration had a hissy fit Tuesday and canceled public tours of the White House to save money during the sequester.
Apparently no one in the administration considered stopping the spending on the President’s golf trips or maybe the ludicrous salaries of the White House calligraphers.
No, it’s just like this administration to stop the people from entering the people’s house.
Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert mentioned the golf trips. He filed an amendment with the House Rules Committee Tuesday that said the President should stop golfing until the White House resumes tours again.
Gohmert read the amendment on the House floor. It said:
None of the funds made available by a division of this act may be used to transport the president to or from a golf course until public tours of the White House resume.
Gohmert also mentioned the 341 federal employees who “could have kept their jobs and not been furloughed if the President had not taken his last golf outing.”
The Weekly Standard reported on the $277,050 a year the White House pays its 3 calligraphers:
Chief Calligrapher, Patricia A. Blair, who has an annual salary of $96,725, and her two deputies, Debra S. Brown, who gets paid $85,953 per year, and Richard T. Muffler, who gets paid $94,372 every year.
