In an exclusive excerpt of a forthcoming biography by Zev Chafets published in Vanity Fair, Fox News chief Roger Ailes calls former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich “a prick” and a “sore loser.”

Gingrich, a former Fox News contributor, is said to have complained during the 2012 campaign season that the network was giving too much support to Mitt Romney.

Brian Lewis, Ailes spokesman, asked for guidance on how to respond to Newt.

“Brush him back,” Ailes reportedly said. “He’s a sore loser and if he had won he would have been a sore winner.”

After a moment of silence, he added, “Newt’s a prick.”

Chafets also reports Ailes saying that he likes Marco Rubio — though not as a vice president — and that he thinks Vice President Joe Biden is “dumb.”

“I have a soft spot for Joe Biden,” he told Chafets. “I like him. But he’s dumb as an ashtray.”

And while commenting on Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch, Ailes said:

“Does Rupert like me? I think so, but it doesn’t matter. When I go up to the magic room in the sky every three months, if my numbers are right, I get to live. If not, I’m killed. Our relationship isn’t about love—it’s about arithmetic. Survival means hitting your numbers. I’ve met or exceeded mine in 56 straight quarters. The reason is: I treat Rupert’s money like it is mine.”
