Obama and the left’s threat against free speech

bully bwThe left has parlayed “bullying” into a battle cry to remove all hostility, intimidation and physical harassment from our schools and daily lives. No longer can a stronger, more powerful individual or entity force others to bend to their will. But, alas, as the old adage goes, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Enter the Obama administration in its second term, trying to maintain its almost fascist control over its zombie-like media buddies. Recall, if you will, the president’s putdown of Fox News. Media bias for Obama has been overwhelming through the years. So when acclaimed journalist Bob Woodward came out in The Washington Post on Feb. 22, basically calling the president a liar,  the White House responded with a direct threat.

So how does that affect me as a writer or any of you sitting around the pool or card tables discussing the events that shape our futures and that of our kids? As a journalist and public speaker on political and Israeli issues, I have frequently been confronted physically and verbally by supporters of the left, most notably the Democratic Party.  Before the last national election, I participated in a debate with Democratic bigwigs. The audience was filled with Code Pink and other radicals who so disrupted the meeting, venue officials shut it down to protect the audience. Just this past week, at a lecture I was giving on Israel at a Jewish community center, a woman who identified herself as a Democrat shouted out that I was a “liar” when I quoted Obama on Israel. Security had to be called to settle her down. This is but one of many attempts to shut down the voices of dissent in our communities.

Ms. Darcy taught my fifth-grade class at New York City’s PS 97 that we are guaranteed by our Constitution the sacred right to free speech. But will that right become history under this president?
