Hilarity follows petition to deport CNN host Piers Morgan

piersMorgan_2261090b Piers Morgan, you know that non-American, British citizen hired by CNN to host “Piers Morgan Tonight,” the show with deplorable ratings? Well, Morgan went bloody mad in a Dec.18 interview with Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

In what may be the rudest and most ignorant treatment of a guest I have ever seen on television, Morgan, a gun control advocate, said to Pratt, “You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?” Morgan had other incredibly insolent comments to Pratt, including, “you don’t actually give a damn about the gun murder rate in America,” he called Pratt an “idiot,” and ended with, “you’re a dangerous man espousing dangerous nonsense and you shame your country.”

To Pratt’s credit, he remained calm, cool and collected while making a coherent argument for gun rights and the second amendment.

Needless to say, furious reaction to Morgan’s rant came in the form of telling him to bugger off via a petition posted by a Texas journalist on the White House website. The petition reads:

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Deport British Citizen Piers Morgan for Attacking 2nd Amendment

British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.

As of this writing, a whopping 71,000 people have signed it, and that number jumps dramatically by the hour. According to the White House website, a petition with 25,000 signatures in 30 days requires a response from the Administration.

Please don’t hold your breath. It’s doubtful the President will ever issue a statement, nor will the cheeky British arse of a journalist get deported.  Though Morgan is not a citizen, he is afforded some protection under the first Amendment, ironically.

However, don’t let that stop you from joining in the fun on Twitter. Morgan can’t seem to shut up, and he’s constantly tweeting snarky comments about the petition that clearly has him slightly panicked. Some tweets from Morgan read: “If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?” and “Merry Christmas! Even to those who want me deported.”

The Twitter responses are absolutely classic. Britebart.com reported the tweets from Jeremy Clarkson, a popular British television host. Clarkson wrote, “Americans. It took us 40 years to get rid of Piers Morgan. Please don’t send him back,” and “Americans. Was the second amendment not introduced to protect you from the tyranny of the British? Piers Morgan in other words.”

Laugh out loud hilarious, as are the fabulous suggestions being tweeted under #PiersMorganDeportationGifts.

Some of the best:

From @Ashley_Thorel: “#PiersMorganDeportationGifts the book ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ so he doesn’t get kicked out of his next country.”

From @izzyjsmom: “#PiersMorganDeportationGifts signed copy of the US Constitution by all @NRA members.”

From @MCHblazer: “A nice shiny red coat to wear just like the last Brits we kicked out of here #PiersMorganDeportationGifts”

From @hollyR_J: “#PiersMorganDeportationGifts Sandra Fluke…PLEASE, take her with you.”

And now, multiple sources are reporting on the counter petition on the WhiteHouse.gov website posted Tuesday which reads:

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Keep Piers Morgan in the USA

We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA.

There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment.

Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back.

Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react.

There are only 209 signatures so far, so the giggle factor for this petition is still quite minimal.
