Finally, a reporter asks tough questions of an Obama administration official. While questioning State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland at a press briefing, Matthew Lee of Associated Press refused to back down from questions regarding anti-Israel comments from Turkey.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had referred to Israel as a “terrorist state”, a remark that Lee said the administration should challenge saying, “You’re being silent while people are dying left and right.”
Nuland noted that the White House has repeatedly affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself, but Lee continued to press for more answers as to why the state department wasn’t more vocal.
“Why can’t you say that you don’t agree with the Turks?” Lee asked.
