Rep. Patrick Rooney Jr., R-Jupiter, is generally known as just “Pat” to friends and colleagues. But as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers Rooney family, Saturday he was addressed as “Mr. Rooney.”
Rooney took time out of his campaign schedule to pay a visit to the WCFL Ultimate Steelers who play tackle football in Wellington. Coach Chris Naum has been a long-time Steeler fan and leads the team with as much enthusiasm as any NFL coach. Rooney was a celebrity for the morning as team members posed for photos and talked football with him.
Also in the neighborhood that morning was Tami Donnally, candidate for Florida House District 86. Village Park, where the WCFL plays, sits in the district. Donnally had the opportunity to speak directly to constituents — and catch a little football.
