Holy Toledo! I just returned from Saturday’s Palm Beach County Jamboree, where more than 400 attendees feasted and heard local Republican primary candidates list their credentials. Great music, delicious food and upbeat attitudes turned this political event into a Midwest-style barn barbecue. Participants expressed an outpouring of fervent support for all the candidates, and also for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
On the list of speakers was my hero — national headliner, Congressman Allen West. His talk was a bell-ringer, grand slam and Triple Crown winner all in one. Coming to the microphone right from another event, not even grabbing a drink or bite to eat, West delivered a most potent, to-the-point, fact-filled talk on national and international issues. He didn’t miss a trick. His special humor came at no extra charge! And all of this without any teleprompters, notes or hesitations. He didn’t miss a beat, and the crowd responded with frequent, extended standing ovations and cheers.
This all took place outdoors, with the temperature hovering, in bright sunshine, at or above 90 degrees. No wonder West’s opponents fear facing him in one-on-one debates.
Allen West is electric, powerful and succinct, and he exudes honesty and integrity. These many traits are rarely, if ever, exhibited by Democrats. They take their lead from their leader, who is perfectly at home spewing out falsehoods that are so easily absorbed and subtly redistributed by the mainstream media. West will have none of that. The left may hate the man, but it can never point its finger at him and shout out, “Liar!” He doesn’t give anyone that opportunity. He tells the truth. For us. And everyone knows it.
