Dara Kam wrote in today’s (July 9) Palm Beach Post that “Tea party firebrand U.S. Rep. Allen West likened Social Security to a ‘form of slavery’ in an interview on Fox News this weekend.” In support, the Post ran a short segment of “Fox & Friends” co-host Dave Briggs’ interview with West.
Rep. West, never at a loss for words, immediately set the record straight and issued a response which was picked up by Tanya Grimsley at Allen West Republic. His response included the following:
I was clearly talking about the number of people on Social Security disability- a completely separate issue then claims that I said I am against Social Security.
The facts are that we have had more people added to Social Security disability then jobs created, and that is appalling.
You may read his entire response in Allen West Republic. Rather than give a short clip, the following is the entire Briggs/West interview. We’ll let you decide for yourselves.
