Democrat Rep. Mark Pafford to draw tough Republican opponent

Florida Rep. Mark Pafford, D-West Palm Beach, has filed to run in his current seat in District 88, but it is widely expected that he will ultimately run in the newly drawn District 86. When Pafford actually files to run in District 86, he’s going to find a tough Republican opponent waiting for him. Both districts represent parts of Palm Beach County.

BizPac Review has learned that Republican Tami Donnally is going to file to run in District 86 and that she is anticipating duking it out with Pafford in November.

Donnally was a political unknown in 2010, when she came within five percentage points of beating the better-financed and more experienced state Rep. Joseph Abruzzo in District 85.

Democrats in District 86 will have a 14.7 percent edge in registration, with 44.2 percent of the registered voters, compared to 29.4 percent registered as Republicans and 26.4 percent registered as independents.

At first glance, the district seems to be almost hopelessly Democratic. But Donnally has proven she’s a tenacious and relentless campaigner, and this race won’t be any cakewalk for Pafford.
