Calling all golfers!

Want to make your swing count for more than your handicap? Well, here’s your chance. On Saturday, Dec. 3, the Florida Fishing Academy will hold its inaugural Holiday Golf Classic at the Cypress Creek Country Club in Boynton Beach. Individual prices are just $100 per golfer — $375 for a foursome – with all proceeds benefitting the fishing education programs of the FFA.

Each year, the FFA teaches the joys and responsibilities of ethical angling to over 1,000 at-risk students in Palm Beach County, inspiring them to be leaders among their peers and in their community and giving them the tools to break free from the temptation of the streets. FFA uses fishing as a unique and captivating vehicle, weaving effective life, environmental and social skills into a youth-oriented, hands-on sports angling curriculum. Studies show that 80 percent of our students are more environmentally- conscious after taking our course, and at least two-thirds are less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol. And with juvenile delinquency a constant concern for our community, the Florida Office of Program Analysis & Government Accountability reports that delinquency prevention programs like ours yield a rate of return of $25 for every dollar invested.

The shotgun on our Holiday Golf Classic goes off at 8:30 a.m., and the all-inclusive price includes green fees, cart rental, morning refreshments and a barbecue lunch.
