A Gift To The American People; The 111th Congress Is No More

Rejoice!  Every American citizen (and those non-citizens here legally) will be receiving one of the greatest gifts of their lifetime this Christmas.  No matter how desperate your financial situation, or how great, this gift is priceless and will be forever remembered as one of the most important gifts we could ever hope to receive.

The 111th Congress is no more!

That’s right, it has mercifully come to an end.  It is no more, it’s done.  Finished.  Kaput.  History.

For any Christian who find themselves in a heated debate over the existence of God and you are called upon to prove His existence, you now have the only proof you will ever need.   It is only by the grace of God that this scourge on the land has ceased to be.

And verifying that his ‘elitist’ label is no unfounded rumor, Obama show he’s just as out of touch as ever when he had this to say about the 111th Congress, “…the most productive two years that we’ve had in generations.”

To call the actions of this Congress productive is akin to calling the era of Mao or Joseph Stalin productive.  Not in the terms of the millions upon millions of deaths caused by these historic figures, but in the terms of the mayhem and destruction brought upon their lands.

The negative impact brought upon America by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will take decades to undo.  Providing we have decades to devote to the task.  And some of the misfortune cannot be undone, such as the confirmations of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.  Heaven alone knows the price this country will pay in future court decisions.

Yet, for the foreseeable future, we’ll be subjected to a ongoing effort by a complicit media and liberal scholars who’ll spin the ‘amazing‘ accomplishments of this legislative body in what is now standard procedure by Progressives to write history to their liking.

An early undertaking can be seen here in a statement made by Alan Brinkley, a historian at Columbia University, “This is probably the most productive session of Congress since at least the ‘60s, it’s all the more impressive given how polarized the Congress has been.”

How appropriate that he compares this Congress to that which produced the ‘Great Society’, who’s efforts ushered in the fiscally irresponsible, big government entitlement era that put us on the road to ruin.

Brinkley also mentions how “polarizing” the 111th Congress was, but fails to mention that it was the Democrat Party that kept Republicans out of committee meetings by locking the doors, or how most legislation was written in the privacy of the Democrat leadership offices.  Nor does he make any reference to the complete disregard for rules or the bribery and corruption in play to gain critically needed support for unpopular legislation.

Yep, no mention of the Cornhusker Kickback or the Louisiana Purchase, no quote from Rep. Alcee Hastings about ‘making up the rules as we go along’.

As the praise is heaped upon Nancy Pelosi, there’ll be no reminders of how she delayed Charlie Rangel’s ethics hearing until after the November elections even though it was clear that he was guilty all along.

The incredible irony of having those most responsible for the financial downfall of our time – Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, who almost single handedly brought about the collapse of the housing market – be put in position to ‘fix’ the same will also be overlooked.

For those of us who saw our lives forever altered in the desperate quest to rein in this arrogant, condescending, ideologically driven Congress, we fully understand why it is the lowest rated in the history of such ratings.

We witnessed the federal debt increase by an amount which is more than the cumulative total of the national debt that was amassed by all U.S. presidents from George Washington through Ronald Reagan.  And we saw unemployment actually go up in spite of all this spending!

We saw firsthand how this body blatantly ignored the will of the American people time and again.  We know unequivocally that it was the most Progressive Congress in our nation’s history, making great strides in bringing us closer to the failed European Socialist model of government.

A hundred years from now, American’s will look back on the Pelosi/Reid era in utter astonishment, much as we now do on the Woodrow Wilson years.  For now, though, we will have to endure an absolute disregard of the facts in the ongoing endeavor by the left to elevate this Congress to a lofty standing simply because it advanced the Progressive agenda – even if it were to our detriment.

But all is not lost, my fellow Americans!  In this holiday season of peace and goodwill, we can enjoy the gift of knowing that never again will we have to suffer the likes of the 111th Congress.  Good bye and good riddance!
